’INS Jatayu’ in Lakshadweep for Better Coverage of Indian Ocean

To bolster its presence in the Indian Ocean Region, the Indian Navy is strategizing the establishment of a new naval base, INS Jatayu, in Lakshadweep.

The primary objective behind inaugurating this new base is to enhance coverage in the Indian Ocean, especially for monitoring activities of regional adversaries like China.

Government sources indicate that INS Jatayu will be situated on Minicoy Island in Lakshadweep, offering a strategic vantage point for the Indian Navy.

Initially, the base will commence operations with a small contingent of officers and personnel, with plans for gradual expansion into a comprehensive naval base.

Scheduled during the upcoming commanders’ conference on INS Vikrant and Vikramaditya, the commissioning of this new base is a strategic move by the Indian Navy.

Similar to INS Baaz in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the new base will provide the Navy with a significant capability in the Arabian Sea.

Notably, both aircraft carriers, INS Vikramaditya and INS Vikrant, will operate in close proximity to Lakshadweep, marking a significant development for the Navy.

This marks the debut of INS Vikrant in twin carrier operations alongside INS Vikramaditya, showcasing the Navy's enhanced operational capabilities.

Additionally, the Navy plans to commission MH-60 helicopters in a ceremony scheduled for the first week of March
